Check Out the 2020 Volvo XC90Near Oakland, CA

Luxury moved into a new category with the addition of the 2020 Volvo XC90 with its impressive technology features, new six-seating configuration for ultimate comfort, and innovative design. If you thought that Volvo outdid themselves in the 2019 model, you will be even more impressed to see all that you loved along with a few extra surprises for 2020. At Mckevitt Volvo Cars San Leandro, we are offering our customers living in and around Fremont and Oakland, CA the chance to learn more about the refreshed 2020 Volvo XC90.

What's New for the Volvo XC90 in 2020?

For the most part, the Volvo XC90 that you came to love and enjoy at its introduction in 2016 hasn't changed much. There is an increase in EV range for the T8 plug-in hybrid and the exterior design is lightly refreshed so you can spot your vehicle in the vast parking lots in Berkeley.

One of the most exciting additions to the Volvo XC90 is the new six-seat configuration that allows for ease of access into the third-row back seat. This new seat configuration gives you more space and greater versatility within your vehicle. Your second- and third-row passengers will find that the additional space within the cabin provides them exceptional comfort and room to enjoy on long rides to and from San Leandro to Oakland, CA. You can choose from the new six or seven-seat configuration available for the Volvo XC90.

New to the Volvo XC90 also is the driver display and road sign identification, which now comes standard, so you can know how fast you're going against the actual speed along with any road hazards or construction to watch out for as you drive around Berkeley.

Technology Features

Safety comes coupled with technology in many new cars on the market today and the Volvo XC90 is no different. Several impressive safety features come standard with the purchase of your Volvo XC90 starting with the 360-degree camera that makes parking easier by giving you a bird's-eye view of your car.

In addition to the 360-degree camera, you'll find parking is a breeze with the Park Assist Pilot that helps you park perfectly, every time. Using its sensors on the outside of the vehicle, it gauges the size of the space to ensure it can fit. All you need to do is operate the gears and brake according to the screen prompts.

Inside the Volvo XC90 you'll find impressive sound quality with the Bowers & Wilkins audio system that features 19 speakers, allowing you to blast your music at any time of day. The other available speakers are the Harman Kardon Premium Sound system that offers 14 speakers that are individually monitored and adjusted. And don't fret, you can connect your smartphone seamlessly using Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™

Innovative Design Built for Comfort

The Volvo XC90 was built with our Fremont, CA drivers in mind, allowing you more space with each backrest having the ability to fold flat whether you're carrying passengers or cargo. And, if complete folding seats wasn't enough, the third row of seats in the six- and seven-seat versions can be raised or folded at the touch of a button from the driver's seat. You can also get comfortable in the front seats with available massage and ventilation functions.

XC90 Trim Levels

XC90 Momentum

It may be the entry-level tier, but there's nothing entry-level about the Momentum trim's feature set. While many luxury brands are happy to keep premium features at the top trim levels, the XC90 includes many of them at the "base" level. Standard momentum features include a panoramic sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control, roof rails, 19-inch wheels, a power tailgate, rear parking sensors, keyless entry and ignition,  LED headlights and taillights, power-adjustable front seats with driver memory function, a 9-inch Sensus infotainment system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

San Leandro families will also appreciate that Momentum models feature a full suite of advanced safety technologies and driver aids, including:

  • City Safety Collision Avoidance (forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking)
  • Pilot Assist Semi-Autonomous Driving with Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keeping Aid
  • Road Sign Information
  • Run-off Road Mitigation
  • Oncoming Lane Mitigation

XC90 R-Design

XC90 R-Design is a performance-inspired trim with a commanding presence. On the outside, it features sporty aesthetic enhancements like 20-inch alloy wheels, a unique grille, and bold style accents. Inside, R-Design models get perforated Nappa leather / Nubuck textile upholstery, metal mesh aluminum inlays, a sport steering wheel with shift paddles, upgraded sport seats with power thigh support, navigation, ambient lighting, rear window shades, and a Harman  Kardon premium audio system.

XC90 Inscription

The XC90 Inscription is a luxury-focused trim with extra emphasis on Volvo's stunning and sophisticated Scandinavian style. The exterior features added chrome trim, a matte silver grille, and trim-exclusive 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels. The upscale cabin exhibits fine Nappa leather upholstery, an Orrefors crystal gear selector, and ventilated front seats.

Package Options

The Advanced package can be equipped on all trim levels. It adds adaptive headlights with headlight washers, a top-view parking system, parking sensors, a head-up display, and an available automated parking system.

The Luxury package is only available on Inscription models. It includes a heated steering wheel, massaging front seats, heated rear seats,  leather handles, sun visors, and a simulated suede headliner.

Continuing the model's second generation, the 2020 XC90 received a slight design refresh and new suspension calibration for improved ride quality. T6 and T8 Momentum and Inscription models now have the option of second-row captain's chairs.
The XC90's standard configuration seats up to seven riders. Available second-row captain's chairs provide an additional six-seat configuration that reduces seating while increasing comfort and ease of access.
Three plants around the world produce the XC90. They are in Torslanda, Sweden, Shah Alam, Malaysia, and Bengaluru, India.
The XC90 T5 comes standard with front-wheel-drive, with all-wheel-drive available as an option. T6 and T8 models feature standard all-wheel drive.
Yes, the XC90 T8 eAWD is a plug-in hybrid model.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings for the Volvo XC90 are as follows:
  • T5 FWD: 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, 25 mpg combined
  • T5 AWD: 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, 23 mpg combined
  • T6 AWD: 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 21 mpg combined
  • T8 AWD: 27 mpg combined (gas only), 55 mpg-e combined (electric and gas) – all-electric range: 18 miles

Other Model Year Specs

What's New for 2019?

2019 was an important year for the Volvo XC90, as it added several important features to make it stand out from the pack. The first and perhaps most notable addition is that seven-passenger seating is now standard on the XC90, which is quite rare for the mid-size SUV segment.

The 2019 Volvo XC90 also ups the ante in terms of safety features by providing Oncoming Mitigation with Braking as a standard feature. This highly advanced technology uses sensor data to help drivers apply the brakes in the event of an imminent collision with an oncoming vehicle. If the crash is unavoidable, rest assured that the reduction in speed will ease the force from the impact.

The last notable addition to the 2019 Volvo XC90 is available Harman Kardon stereo system. Audio fiends that need their favorite music and audiobooks to sound as crisp as possible will find this upgrade to be a necessity.

The 2019 Volvo XC90 comes with a trio of engine options to choose from. The standard T5 is a 2.0-liter direct-injected turbocharged engine that outputs 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. You can also upgrade to the available T6 engine, which is a turbo and supercharged 2.0-liter engine that gets 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful engine option is the T8 Plug-in Hybrid that is the same turbo and supercharged T6 engine, but it comes mated to an 87 horsepower electric motor and boosts the XC90's power numbers to 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

All of the Volvo XC90's engines are paired with a robust eight-speed automatic transmission, and Hayward CA and Piedmont CA owners can expect a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway with the T5 front-wheel-drive models. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive T6 model gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The best gas mileage, as you might expect comes from the hybrid T8, which clocks in at 58 MPGe combined.

In terms of technology, the XC90 doesn't sell its owner short. The most obvious standout is the tablet-like nine-inch touchscreen that easily outsizes many of the standard touchscreens on the XC90's closest competitors. Other highlights of the standard technical features include compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation technology, and satellite radio.

When you choose the Volvo XC90 as your next vehicle, what you get is a world leader when it comes to safety features. Your standard safety features include a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, driver attention monitoring, and speed limit recognition. What's amazing is that many of these standard safety features are expensive add-ons for most of the Volvo XC90's major competitors.

Like with all other Volvo models, the XC90 is designed with Scandinavian cleanliness and simplicity at the forefront of everything it does. When you first sit in the driver's seat, you will immediately notice how uncluttered the cabin feels. There is no wasted space or useless features in your way, and the Linear Walnut genuine wood inlays will make you feel immediately at home.

Trim Levels

The Volvo XC90 comes in four distinct trim levels, each one offering its owner an increasing number of options as you move up.

  • Volvo XC90 Momentum: The base trim level comes with the T5 engine and as a front-wheel-drive model. The T6 and T8 engines are available options, and standard features include leatherette upholstery, proximity keyless entry, a hands-free liftgate and a host of safety and tech features.
  • Volvo XC90 R-Design: This trim level is designed for those with a desire for a sporty aesthetic. Alongside some styling upgrades, this trim can be outfitted with any of the three engine options and adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, a Nappa leather upholstery, paddle shifters, and adaptive headlights.
  • Volvo XC90 Inscription: This is the first trim level to cut out the T5 engine option, so you can only choose from the gas-powered T6 or the hybrid T8. The most notable add-ons are several style enhancements as well as heated and ventilated front seats.
  • Volvo XC90 Excellence: The Excellence is the highest trim level and is notable because it only comes in a four-seat executive style configuration. It comes packed with premium features including footrests, tray tables, a rear beverage cooler, second-row massaging seats, a pair of crystal glasses, and a touch screen for the passengers in the back seat.
